Actor/Playwright Joe Assadourian discovered his acting ability and theatrical voice while serving time behind bars for attempted murder.
Joe was released from prison in 2013, two years before his release, he reluctantly joined a theater workshop at Otisville Correctional Facility in upstate New York.
Actor/Director Richard Hoehler, a volunteer at the institution, use acting techniques to guide inmates through the rehabilitation process. Joe, who had never before even seen a play, quickly discovered his special skills and with Hoehler's guidance began creating an eight-minute scene that incorporated characters he meets during his incarceration. That eight-minute scene evolved into "The Bullpen".
Upon his release, Joe began performing at The Bullpen at the playroom theater on 46th St. The Bullpen ran off-broadway for 15 months. Joe was nominated for Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Solo Performance.
Joe has appeared in "The Grind" (2016), a television pilot directed by Brendan Cochrane, "Billions" (2016) a Showtime special directed by James Foley, and "Ploy", a short film by Julius Kelly.
